Virtually Open on Monday: Jean-François Montagne at Visual Voice

Jean-François Montagne at Galerie Visual Voice

Jean-François Montagne‘s paintings, currently on show at Visual Voice Art Gallery, evoke fantastic and improbable landscapes, filled with charmingly demonic creatures. Montagne’s work is inspired by graphic novels, as well as art movements such as Bad Painting, Art Brut, and Abstract Expressionism.

With Paysages Chimériques (Quixotic Landscapes), the artists hints at narratives and landscapes half-way between figuration and abstraction. The works are chaotic, the simplified figurative elements reminiscent of mountains, trees, and planets; spontaneous drawings overlap heavily textured impasto painting; monsters and anthropomorphised trees and hills float in a dreamlike fantasy.
