    Hi Bettina,

I am a visual arts columnist for the Montreal Gazette. We are publishing a special section Autumn in the City, about events between September and December. I am doing the visual arts article, and would like information about events coming up at your Visual Voice gallery or Belgo building news in general, Thank you.
Please respond to my home email, as I am not at work this next week.
    Thank you, John

    thank you
    Patricia

    Hi Patricia,

the opening hours vary – each gallery keeps their own schedule. Your best bet is to visit the building on Wednesday – Saturday in the afternoon.

All galleries are closed on Sundays, most galleries are closed on Mondays (except for Galerie sas), and some galleries are closed on Tuesdays. If you’re planning to visit a specific gallery I would advise you to verify their opening hours first.

You can check out the Belgo Report’s “Gallery Listing” page (http://www.thebelgoreport.com/gallery-listing) which lists the websites of all galleries in the building. The gallery websites usually indicate the opening hours, or provide an email address where you can contact them directly.

    Good luck with your assignment,
    Bettina

I live in Témiscouata, Bas-St-Laurent. I’m gonna come in town during chrismast time and i wanna know if you’re gonna be open and what is your schedule. Thank you!

    Hi Julie,

the Belgo building itself will be open, but each art gallery has its own schedule over the holiday break. Once I have the information from the gallery owners I’ll post the opening times, but that will be sometime in December.

Thank you for reading the Belgo Report, and have a good trip to Montreal!

thanks a lot i hope to get a response as soon as possible.
    thanks again

    Hi Marios,

there is a lot of oral history about the Belgo, but as of yet no book or website dedicated to the Belgo’s history. From what people tell me, the building initially housed the cloth trade (apparently you can still find sewing needles in the floor boards). About 20 years ago the first galleries moved into the building, and it has now become a centre for contemporary art and dance. A friend told me that there used to be a huge indy record store in the basement), and before that the basement housed a bowling alley. I wished it was still there!

That’s all I know. You may want to sit with the building manager for a chat (if he has time), his office is on the 4th floor in the Belgo.

    Good luck with your research,
    Bettina

thanks a lot bettina, you just saved me much time… i’ve been going crazy trying to find some info on the web and stuff. hearing it from others that nothing has been published is comforting.

    p.s.
i think that this particular building has potential for a book or two.

    anyway,
    thank you very much!!!

    Hello Bettina,
I heard that Robert Poulin was going to open a gallery in the Belgo,
can you tell me anything about it ?
    thanks,
    Mireille

    Mireille,

    thank you for your inquiry.
There is at least one new gallery moving into the Belgo, but I won’t comment on specifics until I have more precise info.
    Stay tuned!

Où est la version française ?

    Merci !

    Bonjour Marcel,

    Merci, Monique..
