This week’s spotlight focuses on the ironic, irreverent Adrian Norvid, whose work is part of the current summer show Il était une fois at Galerie Joyce Yahouda.

Born in London in 1959, Adrian Norvid lives and works in Montreal. He received a BFA in Music (1983) and an MFA in Studio Art from York University (1986).

In his drawings, sculptures and installations resides a sense of furtive accumulation, the building of obscure associative narrative strings that jump from Psychedelia to Victoriana. Notions of corruption or impurity are prevalent throughout the work and the drawings are often extended metaphors for the ideas of “incorrectness’’ or misbehavior.

His works have been exhibited throughout Canada, including solo exhibitions such as “Scruffy Wuffy” at AKA Gallery in Saskatoon (2005), “Hodgepodge Lodge” at Galerie B312 in Montreal (2005), “Losers Weepers” at Axe Neo7 in Gatineau (2005) and “Woody Hoodie” at Joyce Yahouda Gallery in Montreal (2006). In 2006, he participated in the Symposium d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul. A participant in the Quebec Triennial, Norvid exhibited at the Musée d’art de Joliette as well as at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal in 2008.
