Treasures of the East

When you next stroll through the Belgo building, make sure you walk all they way to the end of the corridor on the 5th floor for a visit at Galerie Normand St-Denis.

NStDenis-Indonesia

On display are all sorts of treasures from the Far East – teak furniture, masks, sculptures big and small, and a gorgeous, massive gong. Currently the gallery is featuring a series of antique fabrics from Indonesia which are traditionally worn during religious ceremonies. You can just make out the gold thread in the tubular wedding sarong, and I adored the little embroidered jacket that goes with it. Every item in this gallery has a story, and Normand knows them all. And if you ask nicely, he may even hit the gong for you.
