50 for 312

B312-PourLart

This year, as every year, Galerie B-312 is holding a benefit group show titled Pour l’art, exhibiting the works of 50 Montreal artists. The proceeds will go to the gallery, whose mandate goes beyond setting up exhibitions to include organizing conferences, concerts, performances and publishing literature. On display are a multitude of small works in a wide variety of media, anything from drawing to sculpture, even media arts. This is a great exhibit for budding art collectors – the quality of the works on display is uniformly good, and the prices are very, very reasonable. My fingers were itching for my credit card as I browsed though the gallery, price list in hand. It’s difficult to pick out any favourites, but a few pieces caught my eye, such as Daniel Langevin’s elegant small-format abstract, Jo-Anne Balcaen’s quirky typographic screenprints, and Christophe Jordache’s ephemeral line drawing on a Kleenex.
My advice: bring your cheque book.
