A Study of Emptiness

Currently on show at Circa is the exhibit Combler le vide by Éric Sauvé.

Circa-ESauve

When you enter the main space of Circa the first thing you’ll notice is the jumble of crates constructed from slices of pink styrofoam, arranged in an artful chaos. The installation is dramatically lit, emphasizing the strong play of shadows. In the centre of this pile of crates is a city-scape, also made of styrofoam, but this time in stark white. The detailed, orderly centre-piece creates a counter-point to the deliberate untidiness of the surrounding installation. Sauvé’s intention is to play with the concept of plenitude and emptiness, inviting the viewer to fill in the blanks.
