It may still be sweltering outside, but the Belgo is slowly coming back to life after taking a summer break. Most galleries were closed during the months of July and August, and it’s been eerily quiet in the building. But all this week the smell of fresh paint is wafting through the air, and the sounds of drilling and hammering can be heard at all hours. The first exhibitions are opening this Saturday, with the majority of openings on September 12th.

Here is a list of what’s on offer in the galleries of the Belgo in the next few weeks:

For the 2015 edition the Belgo building is hosting several events such as drawing performances, interactive video screenings, a beatnick-inspired evening of art slams, and live music. Even galleries not on the official programs tend to stay open late, so plan at least an hour to 90 minutes for your Belgo visit. We’re expecting the usual onslaught of night crawlers – over the last few years the Belgo received between 5,000 and 8,000 visitors during each Nuit Blanche event. All this to say – I hope you enjoy crowds.
Here is a list of galleries and spaces which have officially advertised events:

Anthony Haden-Guest
The further chronicles of now
November 29, 2014 – January 17, 2015

Son of the 4th Baron Haden-Guest, inveterate clubber at Studio 54 in the 70’s, friend of Andy Warhol, acquaintance with many contemporary artists like Damien Hirst, Anthony Haden-Guest is a well-known personality in the New York and British art scene. Born in Paris, he grew up in London and moved to New York in the late 70s.He is currently artist, curator, critic, poet, and performer.

For THE FURTHER CHRONICLES OF NOW, Anthony Haden-Guest reads to the public his darkly comic rhymes, some being about the art world, while his cartoons roll by on screen. His drawings depict caricatures of artists, collectors, art critics, as he spent his time in New York’s art world.

This Week in the Belgo https://www.thebelgoreport.com/2014/12/this-week-in-the-belgo-166/ https://www.thebelgoreport.com/2014/12/this-week-in-the-belgo-166/#respond Thu, 04 Dec 2014 19:22:56 +0000 http://www.thebelgoreport.com/?p=4824 The week kicks off with two bazars: Galerie Donald Browne‘s Solstice Bazar actually starts a few weeks before the winter solstice on December 4th, and Arprim celebrate their 35th anniversary with a “fire sale” (Vente du feu) on Friday. Both are good options for holiday shopping.
Saturday is action-packed. Start your afternoon at POPOP Gallery where artist Oli Sorenson is going to demolish a brand-new large-format video monitor, and then head up to SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art where artist collective CRUM will be “employing the technique of Accurism, the collective consciousness of the gallery space, and individual mobile devices, (to) attempt to achieve telepathy.” Let us know how that goes.
Finally, chill out at the vernissage of the group show Nostalgia for the Future at Visual Voice Gallery, where artists Bill Finger, David A. Hardy, and William K. Hartmann reflect on our visions of the future from the 1960s. Moon colonies, anyone?
