Nuit Blanche à Montréal 2013 – Belgo Round-Up

Another Nuit Blanche à Montréal is upon us – mark your calendars for the weekend of March 2/3, 2013 for the annual all-nighter, with events hosted by 185 cultural hot-spots in Montreal. Again this year the Belgo is a beehive of activity and a great location to take part in a myriad of activities in one location. Nuit blanche Diss Torsion
Dance

The troops from the Montreal-Paris dance school showcase their breathtaking urban dance moves, while Diss Torsion presents a one-on-one breakdance battle competition with the talented DJ Neeko Killa on the decks. Everything will be projected live on giant screens.

EDGY – All Nuit Long
Cinema

EDGY All Nuit Long launches the 20th anniversary ART/SPORTS/GENDER edition of the EDGY WOMEN festival (March 2-10). All are welcome to play dress-up and pose in our interactive photo booth and enjoy a screening of short films on stereotypes from the worlds of art and athletics.

Albertan artist Wednesday Lupypciw invites the public into her flamboyant homemade decor and gets ready sew a rhinestone on the clothing of each visitor, then onto her own. It’s an all-night DIY bricolage and textile-based experience, with drinks, music, snacks and camaraderie!

Tracing Thirty
Visual Art

Tracing Thirty is a re-enactment and performance with audience participation. In a fusion of live drawing and a screening of the film 13 Going on 30, artist Jaclyn Meloche traces the actions of the main character directly onto the gallery walls. Gallery visitors are invited to join her and together create an aesthetic interpretation of a female role model.

New Troglodytes
Visual Art

New Troglodytes, an animated and immersive installation by Toronto-based artist Philippe Blanchard, becomes a musical performance hall for the night. Red, blue and green strobe lights activating silkscreen animations will be synchronized to the rhythms of Montreal-based musicians including Drainolith, Hobo Cubes and The World Provider.

The image factory

As part of its program on sovereignty, SBC presents Harun Farocki’s Respite, with footage from a film shot in a Dutch labour and “transit” camp in 1944, and November, Hito Steyerl’s study of her teenage friend Andrea Wolf, who was later executed by Turkish police and became an icon of martyrdom at Kurdish protests.

In need of sun, sand beaches and holidays? Take some time off and have your picture taken by professional artists in front of idyllic landscapes! The photographs will be used to create a collage on the walls of the “photo studio” created in the gallery, bearing witness to your exotic escapades. Cocktails and palm trees will complement the evening.
